Most Wi-Fi devices use a "reverse polarity" SMA connector.  A standard SMA male connector has a male center pin with female threads.  A standard SMA Female has a female center socket with male threads.  RP connectors reverse this -- a center male pin with male threads, female socket with female threads.
But!!! The RP connector with male pin and male threads is still referred to as a female.
We don't know why, but that's the way it is.  Most often, the device has a female RP connector, so to add a standard SMA antenna or cable you would use the SMA Female to RP-Male adapter.

SMA Female to RP Male Use these adapters to add a better antenna, or reposition an antenna, on a Wi-Fi device.  An enhanced antenna system can greatly improve Wi-Fi range and performance.  This one fits most Routers 7.00
