Thousands of Hams have discovered the fun and excitement of portable HF, VHF, and UHF operating. Thousands more enjoy providing communication support for public service events. And of course, we stand ready to help the emergency services in the event of disasters. Without reliable battery power, however, our radios become little more than expensive paperweights. Rechargeable batteries are a great and economical source of power, but they do have significant drawbacks. Typical packs in modern radios use AA or even AAA cells. Small and lightweight, sure -- at the cost of operating time. And when they're dead, they need commercial power for recharging. Not always available or convenient, and always time consuming. PackMules™ will keep you on the air when no commercial power is available. D-size batteries typically last 6 to 8 times as long as AA cells, yet generally cost only twice as much or less! Standard PackMules hold 8 D cells (not included), providing a nominal 12 volts using alkaline cells or 9.6 volts with rechargeable cells. Deluxe PackMules hold 8 D cells and 8 AA cells (not included). A switch allows you to select one size or the other. When weight is a consideration, the Deluxe PackMule can be loaded with AA cells only, or D cells only. We offer a variety of connectors, including those for popular rigs and Anderson Power Poles to mate with our PowerPals™ line of interconnecting cables. We also welcome your suggestions or special requests. Please e-mail us at sales@qsradio.com with your requirements. Most rigs are quite happy at much less than 12 volts, especially at lower power levels. Higher voltage is just wasted as heat -- increasing your cost, not your operating time. That's why CellMates™ are the perfect addition to your PackMule. They take the place of one or more cells, cutting your cost and increasing your talk-time per dollar.
We welcome your suggestions for additions to the PackMule™ line. If you need or want something not listed above, please send us an e-mail -- sales@qsradio.com. We'll be happy to make PackMules in just about any configuration you require. Quantity discounts are available for clubs and groups. E-mail or write for more information. |
