We get that question quite frequently... often accompanied by a scowl and "harrumph" from a guy who's been soldering his connectors since the Roosevelt administration (Usually Franklin D, sometimes Teddy).  So let's explain some of the advantages.

The single biggest failure point in any RF cable -- all cables, all connectors, all types -- is the shield connection to a soldered-on PL-259.  Think about it.  Unless you're really good at it, you have a minimal connection.  Or perhaps you tin the braid so you get a good connection on all 4 solder holes?  You've just taken that flexible braid and made it into solid wire.  As it swings in the wind, what's going to happen?  Yup -- it breaks.

Compare that to a crimped connector.  Six flat contact surfaces, with all of the braid making good contact.  The result?  A stronger, more flexible, and more durable connection.  The trick, of course, is to use the proper connector and the proper tool.  And you'll find them right here. Our crimpers are commercial grade, designed for professional use.  Our crimp connectors are similarly designed for the commercial market, where high reliability and performance are taken for granted.

OK, but you'd still rather solder your connectors? 

Our Prime Directive in business states that we will not offer anything for sale that we would not use ourselves.  The rapidly declining quality of so-called "standard" silver-teflon PL-259s led us to discontinue them.  Our solder-on PL-259 and Type N connectors are equal in quality to the crimp-ons.  They are premium grade and well worth the few extra cents they cost.  We'll leave it to our competitors to sell the cheap ones.
